Apple choose profits over people as UK consumers feel the Brexit bash

By Justin | Finance

With everybody talking about the launch of the iPhone 7, featuring its’ new water-proof functionality, dual rear camera for the Plus and of course the loss of the standard Headphone jack that will encourage users to migrate over to their new wireless tech, take a minute to spare a thought for UK consumers who will be reeling from the news that Apple have upped their prices to account for the perceived weaker pound.

While spread betting traders will be all too aware that the Sterling has fallen from grace ever since Britain voted to leave the EU, many consumers would have been hoping that Apple would at least keep the price in-line with that of the US launch rather than ramp up the costs at both the device and contract levels. However, it appears that the new iPhone 7 is set to hit the markets with their entry-level phone priced at £599 (albeit with a new minimum spec 32GB model) up to £799 for their highest capacity model. The iPhone 7 Plus is also stepping up in price and will enter the market at £719 up to £919 depending on the memory size you opt for.

But for those who haven’t yet been dissuaded by the initial outlay, you may want to consider the additional costs that lie in wait behind the scenes. While Apple’s new iPhone will be including a pair of their ‘original’ headphones in the package that plug directly into your lightning port, if you want to take advantage of the wireless opportunity, or just have your eyes open to the inability to charge your phone while listening to music, you can expect to fork out another £150+ for the privilege of the new ‘Airpods’ which would, in turn, take the cost for your iPhone package to that of a top-model laptop!

So with the potential for accessory sales and pricey contracts, why did Apple choose to pass on the initial levy on the GBP/USD change and will people react as positively as they did to the iPhone 6 just 2 years ago. While some will concede that Apple are really just about big enough to do what they want, the stock market is beginning to paint the picture that this may just be a step too far with a slight slide in the share price and big investors reported to be slightly wary of the new phones. While the corporate team at Apple will be hoping to see the share price rebound over the upcoming weeks before they start to really hit the market, their recent ‘launch’ press conference seemed to leave people thinking about the 2016 Super Mario app release, rather than their own technologies. It was in fact so effective that Nintendo investors saw an instantaneous jump of 4500JPY before falling back to end 12.5% higher on the day.

So if you are still getting ready to empty your savings accounts in order to acquire the latest piece of Apple technology or pricing up your kidneys on the black market, why not try spread betting with Spreadex on the Apple share price to generate some extra funds, either buying into the fact that they will recover once the new phones start to reach consumers or that the phone was over-hyped and the shares will still fall further.

5 Things You Need to Consider Before Buying a Laptop

By Sushmita | Technology

Have an appointment to finish in a day and your desktop has stopped working. Time is running out and you cannot possibly use the computer of a café or go to a friend’s. They are too far away. Your laptop saves the day for you. It is handy and your best friend. So, in this competitive world, to match paces, you definitely need a laptop. Not only you, but everyone in your family too. Kids need it to ease their load of school projects, older people need a laptop to keep them company. Therefore at least one laptop per household is a must. Planning to buy one? A very good idea. But with the different brands that are flaunted in the markets, a confusion is natural – a confusion about which one to buy. So here are five things you need to consider before buying a laptop.

best laptops

1. The Brand

Your laptop stands as good as the brand behind it. Therefore the first and foremost thing you should do are consider all the popular brands, compare their sales and statistics. Compare everything well and then make the right choice.

2. Your Budget

These days, you can buy a usable laptop for under Rs.15000, but if you can budget more, you’ll get a system with better build quality, larger display, stronger performance and a better display. Here’s what you can get for each price range. Therefore you need to compare the features with your budget and buy your best.

3. Battery Life

If you’re buying large, bulky notebook that you’ll use only on a desk near an outlet, you don’t have to worry about battery life. However, if you plan to use the laptop on your lap, even if it’s at home and or work, you’ll want at least 6 hours of endurance, with 8+ hours being ideal. To determine a notebook’s expected battery life, don’t take the manufacturer’s word for it. Instead, read third-party results from objective sources, such as our reviews.

4. The Keyboard and Touchpad

The most impressive specs in the world don’t mean diddly if the laptop you’re shopping for doesn’t have good ergonomics. If you plan to do a lot of work on your computer, make sure the keyboard offers solid tactile feedback, plenty of vertical travel (distance the key goes down when pressed, usually 1 to 2mm) and enough space between the keys. Look for an accurate touchpad that doesn’t give you a jumpy cursor and responds consistently to multi-touch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom. If you’re buying a business laptop, consider getting one with a pointing stick (aka nub) between the G and H keys so you can navigate around the desktop without lifting your fingers off the keyboard’s home row.

5. Decide if you want a two-in-one

These days, many PC laptops fall into the category of “2-in-1s,” devices that can switch between traditional clamshell mode, tablet mode and other positions in between such as a tent or stand modes. The 2-in-1s generally come in two different styles: detachable with screens that come off the keyboard entirely and flexible laptops with hinges that bend back 360 degrees to change modes. Most of these systems are much better at serving one purpose than the other, with bend-backs being laptops first and detachable offering a superior tablet experience. However, if you don’t see the need to use your notebook as a slate, you’ll usually get more performance for your money and a better productivity experience with a traditional clamshell laptop.

Here is probably everything you need to consider. After giving them a thought, just go for it and get your dream laptop.

How to Improve Your Landing Pages for Mobile Viewing

By Christopher Benitez | Technology

How to Improve Your Landing Pages for Mobile Viewing

In 2015, e-commerce revenue generated by mobile users amounted to a whopping $105 billion. Also, over 70% of these purchases were made via mobile web pages, not apps. The best way to give your business entry to this highly lucrative mobile marketplace is through very effective landing pages.

Your landing pages should be able to entice mobile users in a matter of seconds. According to research, current web users have a very short attention span, amounting to a measly 8 seconds or so. If your landing pages do not grab attention during these seconds, you will lose 40% of your traffic to a competitor. Read ahead to find out how to perfect your mobile landing pages to retain users and drive conversions:

Text Must Be Clear and Concise

When it comes to the text copy on your landing page, brevity should take precedence. The average smartphone session lasts only 72 seconds. So, that is little over a minute that a user spends to read the text, look at images, and scroll down. You must make the text very clear and concise in a way that allows users to comprehend the information quickly.

Use short headlines and catchy subheadings to grab attention. Reduce paragraphs about benefits, advantages, and features into lists. Use minimalist landing page themes designed to optimize the mobile viewing experience.

Make CTA Buttons Stand Out

The most crucial components your landing page has will be the call-to-action buttons. CTA buttons should be placed above the fold to be immediately visible to visitors. They should stand out from the rest of the components on the page as well.

Mobile users are highly goal-oriented. Close to 70% of mobile users take an action within an hour, unlike desktop users. Your CTA buttons will be generating this action on the landing page. Therefore, spend some time to make your CTA buttons highly compelling and eye-catching.

Increase the Page Loading Speed

Though mobile users are more inclined to wait for a landing page to load than desktop users, no one wants to wait forever. Only 16% of mobile users wait for 5 seconds for a page to load, and 30% will abandon a page if it takes 6 to 10 seconds to load. Your landing page must load fast enough to retain traffic and capture leads.

You can slim down your landing page to make it load faster using simple steps like compressing scripts. Resize and compress images before uploading, and remove all unnecessary plugins. Routinely use a free online tool to test your landing page speed.

Make Landing Pages as Type-Free as Possible

Do not expect your potential customers to type long sentences using those tiny QWERTY keyboards on smartphones. Even typing on a tablet keyboard can be frustrating. Therefore, be sure to make actions you expect customers to take as type-free as possible.

Rely on drop-down menus and check boxes. For actions like signing up for newsletters or offers, try to auto fill fields on forms to make the process less cumbersome. Also, you can auto switch numerical and alphabetical keyboards depending on the field the user is in. For example, make it so that the phone turns to the numerical keyboard when the user is trying to fill out a ZIP code.

Aim to make your company’s mobile landing page browsing experience as pain-free as possible. Employ the above suggestions smartly. Never forget that mobile user experience differs significantly from the desktop user experience.

iPhone 6: Common Problems Users Have and Their Fix!

By Sushmita | Technology

Making a hit in the markets, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s have gained millions of users. With larger touch-screens and better experiences, these phones have been selling like hotcakes over the recent past and still continue. But, despite this popularity, the phones have shown to harbor many small and big problems which bother the users worldwide. Four major problems faced by the users are mentioned here.

iPhone 6 problems

iPhone 6 issues!

Problem 1 – Screens Freeze

To start with, the screens of the iPhones 6 and 6s freeze. Users have found that their device’s display becomes unresponsive when using apps. The problem has been reported on phones running iOS 9.3.1 and iOS 9.3.2, and has been known to occur multiple times a single day.
 Use the lock button to turn the screen off and on again.
 Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Apple logo appear to reset your iPhone.
 Factory resets and restore your device as a new phone, or restore it from a backup.

Problem 2 – Updating issues

Another problem with the screens is that they don’t turn off automatically after updating to IOS 9.3.2. When the iPhone’s display is turned on and left to idle, the screen will dim for a short time before brightening. Some people are finding that the display will dim once again before brightening, and will continue this loop until the screen is manually turned off using the Sleep/Wake button.
 Change Auto-Lock settings. Go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock.
 Simultaneously hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons to perform a reset.
 Reset all settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
 Roll back to iOS 9.3.1.

Problem 3 – iMessages not delivering?

The next problem some users face is that their contacts do not receive iMessages and texts.
 Turn iMessage off and back on, or turn iMessage off to see if texts can be sent and received.
 Make sure the contact is not on your block list. To do so, go to Settings > Phone > Blocked, and confirm that the user is not on any block list.
 Delete your current conversation with contact(s) and start a new one.
 Simultaneously hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons to reset your device.

Problem 4 – Updating issues again…

Users also face difficulty in updating their iPhones from IOS 9.3.1 to 9.3.2.
 Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes (12.4).
 Try updating through iTunes on another computer.

 If met with an error code, check Apple’s detailed support page on what the different error codes mean and what to do.

Problem 5 – Importing images

The iPhones in many cases have been found to be unable to import photos using Photos 1.5 in Mac OS X.
 Make sure you’re running the latest version of OS X (10.11.5).
 Restart your Mac and try to import again.
 Turn your iPhone off and on, or reset it by simultaneously holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, try to import again.
Connect your iPhone to your Mac via USB, and while connected, restart your iPhone. Alternatively, try restarting your iPhone and Mac while connected.
 Roll back to iOS 9.3.1.

Nonetheless, the best possible solution in case of repeated errors is to contact Apple Support or take your device to an Apple Store.
